Dr. Jiguang Wang (王吉光) is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Life Science and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at HKUST. He obtained his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2011. He was a visiting student at the Shanghai Institute of Biological Science at CAS, and has served as a visiting scholar in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Missouri, an assistant professor in the Beijing Institute of Genomics at CAS, a postdoctoral research scientist, an associate research scientist, a Precision Medicine Fellow and a faculty member in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. To date, he has published more than 40 high-impact papers on machine learning, bioinformatics and precision medicine, such as papers in Nature, Cell, Nature Genetics and eLife. He was named a Precision Medicine Fellow at Columbia University in 2015-2016 when he managed a research project on the evolution of brain cancer. This project led to the publication of two Nature Genetics papers. His current research interests are in the application of data science in systems biology and precision cancer medicine.
